Google Tasks access

For users and Google OAuth reviewers. Last updated 3 September 2026

Day Director is a project workspace at daydirector.com. It is not an integration platform and does not offer a least-privilege catalog of many Google scopes. The only Google Workspace scope we request is:

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks.readonly (“See your tasks”).

Why this scope, and nothing narrower

Inbox can copy incomplete Google Tasks from every list on the signed-in Google account so you can triage them into Day Director projects. The Tasks API exposes two scopes only:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks.readonly — view task lists and tasks. This is what we request.
  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks — create, edit, organize, and delete tasks. We do not request this. The app never writes back to Google Tasks.

There is no per-list, title-only, incomplete-only, or single-list OAuth scope. Listing every list and reading open tasks requires tasks.readonly. That is the minimum privilege that implements the feature.

What the scope does in the product

  1. You sign in to Day Director (email or Google Sign-In). Google Sign-In alone does not request Tasks.
  2. You open Inbox and choose Sync Google Tasks.
  3. A dialog names the exact scope. Continue opens the Google OAuth consent screen. Expand “See your tasks” / “Show all services” so the permission is fully readable.
  4. After you allow access, the app lists every Google Tasks list and copies incomplete titles, notes, and due dates into Inbox. Completed and deleted Google Tasks are skipped.
  5. You can edit the Inbox row, attach a photo, or promote it to a project task. Those writes stay in Day Director. They do not create, edit, complete, or delete the source Google Task.

Step-by-step navigation for Google reviewers

No credit card, phone verification, or paid plan is required. Anyone can create a workspace and exercise Inbox sync with their own Google account (please put two or more incomplete tasks in at least two Google Tasks lists before you start).

  1. Open the public homepage: daydirector.com (or daydirector.com/?stay=1 if you are already signed in). Confirm Privacy and Terms in the header and footer. The Privacy URL is daydirector.com/privacy — the same URL as the OAuth consent screen.
  2. Read Privacy, including sharing, data protection, and the AI/ML affirmation.
  3. Go to daydirector.com/login. Create an account or sign in. Use email/password or Continue with Google.
  4. After sign-in you land on Projects. In the left sidebar, open Inbox.
  5. Click Sync Google Tasks. Read the in-app scope explanation, then Continue to Google.
  6. On the Google consent screen, confirm the app name is Day Director. Expand all requested services so https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks.readonly is visible. Allow access.
  7. Inbox should show imported rows with a Google Tasks badge, the source list name, notes, and due date. Open a row, then use To project to create a Day Director task. Google Tasks itself is unchanged (read-only).

The demonstration video is submitted in Google Cloud Console (YouTube, unlisted) and in the reply to the verification email. It shows the OAuth consent screen with “See your tasks” expanded, then Inbox import from every list.
